Shockwave Therapy is a proven, effective, non-invasive therapy used in the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries to provide pain relief, reduce chronic inflammation, dissolve calcifications, release trigger points, promote tissue healing and restore mobility.

Shockwave Therapy is a proven, effective, non-invasive therapy used in the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries to provide pain relief, reduce chronic inflammation, dissolve calcifications, release trigger points, promote tissue healing and restore mobility.

Shockwave Therapy is comprised of high-energy sound waves which can be changed in pressure and amplitude. This energy produces an increase in blood flow to the bones, tendons and soft tissue, breaks down scar tissue, and stimulates normal healing.

Studies have shown that Shockwave Therapy is highly effective in the treatment of tendon pathologies and other chronic soft tissue injuries when typical conservative treatments have failed.

Common conditions treated by Shockwave Therapy

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Heel Spurs
  • Achilles Tendinosis
  • Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
  • Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Rotator Cuff Calcific Tendinopathy
  • Hamstring Tendinopathy
  • Bursitis (shoulder, hip)
  • Shin Splints
  • Stress Fractures

Treatment

A Physiotherapy Initial Assessment will be performed to determine if Shockwave Therapy is the best treatment modality for your condition. If appropriate, the physiotherapist will explain the procedure and it’s benefits and risks before starting treatment. Shockwave Therapy is a stand-alone treatment and it is usually administered 3-6 times, 5-10 days apart, depending on the nature of the condition to be treated. It is often a considerable time saver for the patient as the treatment usually only takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Benefits of Shockwave

Shockwave Therapy is a great non-invasive therapy with minimal side effects, and results are often seen in fewer visits.  It is highly cost-effective, meaning it costs less to get better than many other typical treatment options.

The Shockwave Therapy offered by Sackville Chiropractic Clinic is electromagnetic, and therefore falls into the “soft shock” category.  As a result, patients find it more comfortable than treatments performed with the more commonly available machines driven by compressed air.
